The esteemed 82-year old Estonian National Symphony Orchestra is one of the last great European ensembles that has not yet toured in the United States. Experience their mastery on their American debut tour, joined by that of virtuosic pianist Joyce Yang, the Van Cliburn Competition’s award winner for Best Performance and Best New Work in 2005.
Under the direction of Artistic Advisor Paavo Jarvi, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra has recorded several internationally acclaimed discs for Virgin Classics, winning a Grammy Award in 2003 and BBC Music Magazine’s Best Orchestral Recording Award in 2006.
A Juilliard-trained musician, Joyce Yang was recognized for Best Performance and Best New Work at the Van Cliburn Competition when she was only 19. Ms. Yang has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center, the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, the Aspen Symphony and opened the season of the National Symphony at The Kennedy Center. In November 2006, Joyce Yang made her New York Philharmonic debut with Lorin Maazel in Avery Fisher Ha. She appeared with them again in New York City and at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in Vail.
